About the Hospital

AIC Kapsowar Mission Hospital is a 130-bed teaching and referral facility located in Elgeyo Marakwet County that delivers Christ-centered, compassionate health care to patients from all parts of Kenya. The hospital performs over 1,800 surgical procedures per year and sees over 40,000 outpatients. Its owned and operated under the Africa Inland Church (AIC) – Kenya. It has an onsite Medical Training College, training nurses and perioperative technologist at diploma level, is a teaching site for family medicine as well as general surgery residents.

The hospital is actively pursuing plans to expand and improve infrastructure including housing, ward space, and other clinical areas of the hospital. Additionally, the hospital is launching a series of new healthcare training programs, including a unique surgical team development program designed to expand surgical capacity in under-resourced areas of sub-Saharan Africa. The individuals must have the experience, skills, and initiative to support the planned expansion efforts.


1. PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIST

We are seeking a self-motivated pharmaceutical technologist whose responsibility is to provide quality pharmaceutical services in the hospital.

Key duties

  • Accurate dispensing-Pharmaceutical technologists prepare and dispense medications according to prescriptions or orders, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Compounding and labeling-Occasional compounding of specific medications and preparing labels with clear instructions.
  • Checking for errors-They identify potential medication errors or contraindications and resolve them before dispensing.
  • Ensure safe custody and management of D.D.A. drugs.
  • Record keeping- Maintaining accurate records of medication dispensing, inventory, and uphold confidentiality.
  • They counsel patients on how to properly take their medications, including dosage, timing, and potential side effects.

Stock control-They participate in stocktaking, monitor stock levels, and ensure proper storage and handling of medications to prevent wastage or expiry.

Ordering and receiving-They may be involved in ordering medications and supplies, verifying deliveries

Working with healthcare team-They collaborate with pharmacists, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.

Educational and Experience Requirements: 

  • Must be registered with the Pharmacy and Poison Board with valid practicing license
  • Diploma holder from a recognized institution.
  • At least 3 years of working experience in a similar position
  • Good customer care skills
  • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Must be a practicing Christian wiling to adhere to, abide by and sign AIC statement of faith

2. Manager Facilities and Projects

Lead the growth, development and maintenance of the hospital facilities, installations, operations and plants, to ensure improved performance, productivity, efficiency and oversee projects.

Key duties

  • Provide inspirational leadership and effective management to the Maintenance Team and Facilities management, including establishment quality standards, and clear lines of sight from day-to-day operations.
  • Develop and implement work plans and budget-driven decisions around regular maintenance and new projects related to hospital facilities.
  • Representing the Hospital in various related Hospital and Mission Station committees related to facilities.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all existing hospital facilities to keep their optimum utility.
  • Supervise, coach and direct a team of multiple hospital maintenance staff and contracted specialty employees (i.e. contracted electricians).
  • Provide technical assistance and technical information related to hospital maintenance to hospital departments and outside consultants when required.
  • In liaison with the relevant teams (transport, hospital departments, Biomed, donors), keep oversight of progress by ensuring that projects are executed on time and within budget by performing a key role in project planning, budgeting, and identification of resources needed.
  • Attend site meetings to review schedules, quality of work and make recommendations.
  • Ensure that standards are not compromised and all health and safety checks are adhered to for all hospital installations.
  • Creating the space and environment conducive to spiritual ministry in conjunction with the Chaplaincy Department.
  • Oversee performance management of staff in the department.
  • Identify training needs for the departmental staff, mentor and coach staff within the department.
  • Identify procurement needs and tool requirements of the facilities department.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports to Management.

  • Successful completion of Engineering and Facilities projects.
  • Successful planning budgeting, utilization and reporting on financial resources.
  • Effective leadership, supervision and management of manpower resources.
  • Continuous process improvement of services offered.

Educational and Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or a higher national diploma in Electrical /Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years’ related work experience
  • Membership of Institute of Engineers Kenya or be able to apply for membership
  • Must have demonstrated ability to handle budgets, resources, processes, projects and relationships
  • Must be capable of functioning effectively both as a team player and a team leader
  • Must demonstrate high level of integrity
  • Must have strategic leadership skills with ability to build strategic relationships
  • Should have experience in change management and the ability to drive change in a team
  • Should have high level problem solving and decision-making abilities
  • Should be an effective communicator and be results orientated
  • Should have effective people management and conflict resolution skills
  • Must be a practicing Christian willing to adhere to, abide by and sign AIC statement of faith.

Qualifications

Proficient in handling surgical instruments, sterile technique, and operating room equipment
